Executive Director's Message
Welcome to Hughen Center’s website! We hope you enjoy learning more about our history, approach, and programs, and gain helpful information and resources. We are actively engaged in a broad range of programs and activities, all focused on creating crucially needed transitions toward sustainable independence primarily for children and adults with physical disabilities.
Hughen Center, founded in 1936, has a long and distinguished history of service to children and adults with physical disabilities. Our efforts to improve the lives of these children and adults include the aid of legendary icons Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, Coach Bum Phillips and the generous support of the Southeast Texas community. Currently, Hughen Center possesses licenses by the State of Texas to provide 24-hour residential child care for up to 52 children, adult day care for up to 40 adults, and a charter for Bob Hope School serving grades 6-12.
Hughen Center is designated by the I.R.S. as a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors. We rely on donations from individuals, companies, and foundations. We are also a United Way agency.
I invite you to visit with me and the staff if you are in the area. Until then, enjoy the website and take the time to watch the video found at the bottom of the homepage. It is only 5 minutes long and can provide you a quick overview of our history and services.
sincerely,
Executive Director
